“Reviewing the first edition....we said "this new book sets a new
standard for clarity and attractive format". After only three years the authors
have bettered this with a completely updated edition!
THIS NEW PILOT CANNOT BE TOO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL EAST COAST YACHTSMEN."

– The Cruising Association, 2008

'On some days the sun will be bright, the breeze ruffling the water, the swiftly running tide chuckling and chirruping about the cable and hull calling “Come on, let’s go” and you’ll be away on the tide bound for – where? Does it matter? You’re under way and the whole estuary is there to be sailed.'

England’s East Coast, between Lowestoft and Ramsgate, is loved for its creeks and harbours, while its shallows and sand banks make for some interesting pilotage. The authors are well-known commentators on the East Coast boating scene and wrote this new-style guide to bring a fresh approach to pilot books. With the outstanding success of the first edition, they have now produced a fully revised second edition. Not only has the detail been brought up-to-date, but the majority of the photographs have also been replaced. In addition, they have enlisted the aid of a number of Honorary Port Pilots, and invite you to meet them HERE.

The authors comment: “As all three of us live and sail on the East Coast, we can truly say that the book is 'written by locals' using first-hand knowledge that has been scrupulously cross-checked. In addition, we constantly maintain this website, which is designed to help to keep the book current, by providing immediate updates well before they are gathered into future printed editions of the East Coast Pilot".

The rate of change around here is amply illustrated by the fact that by January 2008, when the new edition was published, there were already several corrections which had arisen within the two months taken for printing!
